What's Up?

Right now I've got a few balls in the air, so to speak. Today is my day to be a DJ for Bikini Beat. I chose the chicks, they post the pics. I think it's a win/win. Unless you're a gay dude, then it might not be your cup of tea.

I'm also selling my Wii on Craigslist right now. Put it out there on Sunday. I haven't gotten any inquiries yet, but hopefully soon. $600 might be a bit high. If I don't get any responses, I'll lower the price and stick it on eBay.

And I'm keeping my resolution to post more stuff on Platform Nation. I just have to remember that even though a piece of news isn't a big deal to me, it's probably a big deal to somebody. Plus, Steve has a pretty sweet deal for us writers, so it's been a good incentive.

I'm still working my way through Dead Space, too. I'm bound and determined to finish this game because of all the great things I've heard about the story. Plus, I really enjoy it when I'm not stuck. It sucks because I guess there are things that are obvious to other people, but not to me. Every time I get stuck, I look up a walkthrough and realize I have to use stasis or kenesis on something. Of course, by then I've already become super frustrated.

The Force Unleashed

While it's still 2 months away, I can't help but start to get excited for the new Star Wars game, The Force Unleashed. It's one of the few games I'm planning on actually buying on release this year. The question I have is whether I'm buying the Xbox 360 version or the Wii version. I guess I will have to wait for some reviews, although the 360 and PS3 versions were developed by LucasArts, while the Wii version was handled by a 3rd party. I'm not sure if some exclusive content (and multiplayer) will be enough to outweigh the cheevos. Of course, if the motion control works well and you can realistically use the lightsaber and force powers, then I'm totally there.

Mario Kart Wii

I traded in a few games at Gamestop on Sunday in order to get my hands on Mario Kart Wii. I know, Gamestop is the devil, but the games didn't sell on eBay and I wasn't willing to wait to start racing. They did give me $15 for the games, which is more than I expected. It doesn't matter, because in the end it's all about Mario!

I didn't play Mario Kart DS much online. I played the Wii version online last night and pretty much got my ass handed to me in every race. I came in 2nd once, but that's the best I could do. Not that I'm complaining. It was a ton of fun. I did get a little frustrated at times, but it wasn't because of the game or controls. Just my unfamiliarity with the new courses.

Rhea and I played on Sunday night in some VS. races. I love playing with her because she cusses like a sailor when she's playing. It's probably a good thing there isn't voice chat in the game because both of us get pretty raunchy. There's a lot of "fucking Baby Mario!" and "Shit!" and "Oh, that's nice, I fell off!". The last one isn't that bad, but it's always punctuated by "fuck!".

The cool thing is when you're first connecting. I always chose regional races, so it showed a big map of the U.S. and it would pop up people's Mii's on the map where they are located. It was a cool feature I wouldn't mind seeing on Xbox LIVE. Maybe Nintendo has some online game after all.

The friend code thing is another story altogether. I got messages from some of my buddies, but it was just a note with their friend code in it. I couldn't say accept or anything to automatically add them. I had to write the number down, boot up the game, then add them. Pain in the ass!

Overall I'm super happy with the game. I'm especially happy that I threw some money at Nintendo instead of at Rockstar for GTAIV. Vote with your wallet, I say.

Heatseeker

I started playing Heatseeker on the Wii last night. It's pretty fun. The most annoying part was how your commanding officer shouts orders to you. Each sentence is either started or finished with "Downtown". That's your name in the game, and they remind you every 7 or 8 seconds.

"Downtown, you've got to protect that plane!"

"Get over there and blow up those jeeps, Downtown!"

"Downtown, those boats are gonna fire on our position, Downtown!"

I sent back Red Steel. I didn't finish the single player. I got bored with it. Besides, my Command and Conquer came in and I still have Shadowrun. Woot!

Red Steel

I played Red Steel for a couple hours last night. I really like the action so far. It feels like you're in a John Woo movie at times, which I like. Replacement Killers FTW!

The cutscenes are pretty craptacular. Reminds me of the scenes in X-Men 3:The Official Game. The worst part is, you can't skip them! I understand that they are trying to tell a story, but I don't care. I just want to shoot some bad guys!

I want to try the multiplayer out before I send it back. Maybe the wife will jump in with me for some deathmatch.

In 360 news, I'm still waiting for my console to be repaired and sent back. It's been 2 weeks. 17 days since I've been on Xbox Live.

It really sounds like there's a bigger problem than Microsoft will admit to.

Metroid Prime Corruption

The boxart for the new Metroid game is out. It's gorgeous, to say the least. I'm not a huge fan of the first person Metroid games. I played Metroid Prime on the GCN and Hunters on the DS. I will try the Wii version just for the controls. Should be a fun rental.

How The Wii Made Me Go Back To GameStop

The other day I decided I wanted find some good GameCube games for my Wii. I've been without my Xbox 360 for almost 2 weeks, so I need something to shoot. I've got Wario Ware Smooth Moves from Gamefly, which is cool, but it's not Gears or Shadowrun. I need to do some killin'.

So, I decided to head to GameStop and check out the used GCN games. I've been boycotting GameStop since the 360 launch, but I needed a fix, so I went back. I hope they learned their lesson!

This brings me to the reason for this post. I bought Battalion Wars for $10. A game I wanted to play on the GCN, but never did. I asked the genius at GS if it would be playable with the Wii Classic Controller. His response was "I don't know". Shocking!

The Classic Controller has enough buttons to work as a GameCube controller. But, when I get the game home and pop it in, I get nothing. Wonderful. So, back to GameStop I go to get a controller. I get home and start to play the game and it says I cannot save since I don't have a memory card inserted. Argh!

So, I went from moderately irritated about the controller issue to kinda pissed. Number one, why can't I use the Classic Controller on my GCN games and number two, why can't I save stuff to the 1GB SD card that's inserted in my Wii!?

I don't want to have to go hunting down a memory card when there's a perfectly good SD card in the console, but that's what I'm going to have to do.

And this is how the Wii ended my boycott of GameStop.

Wii Play

We're going to get Wii Play on Friday (when we get paid). It comes with the wiimote, so how can you go wrong?
